EACS Online Cloud Backup Solution
EACS Cloud Backup is a fully managed, state of the art offsite solution that is available for a monthly per/GB cost. This technology negates the need for unreliable tape media and human intervention. It could be your first step on the Disaster Recovery ladder or a supplementary extension to your existing Business Continuity Plan.
How it works
Based on the Asigra platform, customer data is backed up, restored and managed through an onsite application.
Your data is encrypted, compressed and de-duplicated at source to secure and minimise the amount of data transferred over the internet connection.
Further savings are made by only backing up changed data once the initial backup is complete. These technologies have the potential to greatly reduce the amount of stored data, thus keeping monthly costs down, depending on the rate of change and type of data being backed up.
Storage of the backups is on resilient hardware located in a secure UK based datacentre where it is replicated to a second UK location to provide further resilience. The data is securely backed up over your existing internet connection which needs sufficient capacity to transfer the de-duplicated changed data within the selected backup window.
EACS Cloud Backup is designed to be flexible and cost effective. Being a fully managed service there is no backup hardware or software for you to purchase, expand, upgrade, patch or manage. Furthermore the data is offsite removing the need to manage a separate “in-house” or “third-party” offsite function. This reduces costs, support overhead and human error whilst improving security and ensuring resilience of data.
The Benefits
Protection using a best of breed backup, recovery, and restore solution that is purpose-built for the cloud. EACS’ next-generation software reduces the amount of backup assets you need to buy, manage, and maintain.
Simplifed Backup, Recovery & Restore of solutions and processes across your entire organisation.
Adaptable - to quickly meet ever changing and evolving backup demands. This gives you the flexibility to future-proof your backup and recovery strategy, plus optimise your operating and capital expenditures.
Agentless - in most cases the solution does not require any agents to be installed in source machines for any applications that need to be protected. Our DS-Client software is an agentless data collector, installed at the edge of your environment to collect data from designated servers. Backups can even be extended to include desktops and laptops.
Scalable - the service allows for efficient backup and recovery processes to be applied to multiple dataset sources across multiple machines. Large data growth can be catered for without the need for you to purchase more tapes or disk storage.
Reduced Systems Management - the labour intensive maintenance of the traditional backup environment is no longer required as management by EACS is included in the monthly cost.
Secure - the device encrypts every file it sends with an encryption key provided by you at the time of installation. The files are transferred and stored in this state and remain encrypted on the device at all times. The encryption level is 256 AES and is FIPS 140-2 certified.
Available - the service eliminates service disruptions caused by scheduled downtime for maintenance, as agentless backup doesn’t require source machine resources and system restarts.
Flexible - the configuration options let you protect and store data at timescales to meet your requirements on a per server basis if required.
No Hidden Costs - Total Cost of Ownership is more manageable as there is no license, hardware or hidden support costs, just a monthly fee based on the amount of data stored.
How much does it cost?
The monthly charge consists of a data storage charge based on the actual volume of data stored, as audited on the last day of every month. The data volume figure is then multiplied by the contracted monthly rate to provide the charge for that month. It should be noted that the volume of data stored is the amount of space consumed after compression and deduplication has taken place.
Support
The monthly charge includes the on-going support, management, monitoring, fault diagnosis and rectification of the Cloud Backup environment infrastructure. (As this is an agentless environment the diagnosis does not include repair of faults diagnosed as an issue on the protected system or systems unless it is part of a fully managed contract with EACS).
Backups are checked daily by the EACS technical support team using the system portal. Any failures and actions taken are reported to the customer via email and summarised in a monthly performance report.
What Next?
Subject to approval and available bandwidth, a 30 day trial can be implemented. This consists of :
- Temporary installation of client software on a customer supplied system
- Configuration of test backup of up to 75GB of raw data
- Demonstration of on-line functionality with regards backup and restore
- Report on the amount of compression and de-duplication achieved
- Deletion of data from the system at the end of 30 days (data is not available for recovery)
All work is carried out remotely via GoToAssist sessions.
There is no charge for this trial which is limited to a maximum of 30 days.
