EACS is pleased to announce their sponsorship of Young People of the Year (YOPEY) Cambs. YOPEY contests are open to young people aged from 10 to 25, who 'give to others' and are aimed at showing the positive side to young people today.
Although there is often negative publicity around young people binge-drinking, taking drugs, etc. there are many young people all over the country who do wonderful things for others.
Mike Dearlove, Managing Director of EACS, said “I wanted to sponsor this activity because I believe in encouraging young people and in showing our support to the local community”.
The 2008 YOPEY has been launched with the support of Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who has welcomed some past winners to Downing Street to congratulate them on their achievements.
The Prime Minister said: "The Young People of the Year competition is a wonderful celebration of Britain's youth. It is looking for the kind of heroes who live next door, and in the next street, and throughout our neighbourhoods – the kind of heroes other young people might want to become."
There is £2,000 to be won in Cambridgeshire, with a top prize of £1,000. Winners will give half their prize money to a good cause of their choice, but will be able to keep the other half. This year’s YOPEY is open to entries until 30 September with the awards ceremony being held at Cambridge Airport in December.
