A leading software provider was planning a move to the cloud with a strategic technology roadmap that culminated in their IT systems being fully cloud based in 3 to 5 years’ time. However, it would not be practical for them to move everything over straight away as their existing tools and services would not be able to manage this, so ways of transitioning to the cloud needed to be investigated. The company had already moved from physical servers to a predominantly virtualised server estate.
EACS transformed the company’s virtualised infrastructure by implementing Microsoft Private Cloud (an on-premise cloud operating system) using System Center 2012 R2.
The solution provides all the benefits of cloud computing, but is on-premise using existing systems. This approach has two major benefits. Firstly, it simplifies the transition to the public cloud, as Windows Azure is based on the same platform and technologies as the private cloud. Secondly, by integrating the two clouds together, it forms a “Hybrid Cloud” infrastructure, which allows servers and services to transition between the two, offering maximum flexibility.
The customer is now ready for a move to the cloud with tools which can manage all cloud resources, whether they are public or private.
