Virtualisation and Disaster Recovery Project for a Housing Group which Manages over 20,000 homes
The Challenge
A housing group, which manages over 20,000 homes, was planning an office move to a listed building. They also wanted a disaster recovery solution which could be managed in-house, allowing them to deliver consistent services to employees and tenants in the event of issues or planned downtime.
The Solution
EACS recommended using VMware to create a virtual ICT environment, which would use less space in their new building. The project started with an information gathering exercise using VMware Capacity Planner, enabling the company to make informed decisions on the best way to move forward.
EACS reduced the physical number of servers from 48 to a farm of 7 (4 virtual and 3 physical) and added a fifth virtual server to promote resilience and performance. The infrastructure was able to be hosted in one cabinet, providing even greater space efficiency. EACS also implemented shared storage from NetApp, which will promote Business Continuity within the business, whilst allowing for a comprehensive Disaster Recovery solution using off-site locations.
